What Is Red Light Therapy?
Red Light Therapy (RLT), also know as photobiomodulation or low-level light therapy (LLLT), is a non-invasive treatment that uses low-level wavelengths of red, near-infrared, and blue light to stimulate cellular function and promote overall healing. By penetrating the skin, this therapy enhances mitochondrial activity, which increases the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the energy source for cells. This increase in cellular energy helps to support tissue repair, improve circulation, reduce inflammation, can improve skin health, support muscle recovery, assist with pain management and more. RLT has a wide range of benefits across multiple systems making it an effective tool for those that are seeking a holistic approach to their healthcare.
In the realm of beauty and skin health, RLT stimulates collagen and elastin production, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, and helps manage conditions such as acne. It is also widely used as a supportive treatment to help reduce post-operative swelling, bruising, and scar formation, making it a powerful addition to recovery and post-surgical care. For those dealing with chronic pain or inflammation, RLT helps to temporarily alleviate discomfort by improving blood flow and tissue oxygenation. Specialized RLT panels can also stimulate hair follicles, supporting hair regrowth and scalp health.
At our Holistic Haven we use Celluma Elite Series II and Celluma Nova - both FDA-cleared, Professional-Grade, Class II RLT devices. These devices allow us to integrate this technology into holistic care plans, including Functional Health Programs, Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) Programs, Post-Operative MLD and Post-Operative Recovery Programs, or as a standalone service. Rather than suppressing symptoms, this therapy works by activating the body’s internal repair mechanisms, offering a more integrative approach to healing and recovery.
While Red Light Therapy is safe, non-invasive, and drug-free, it may not be appropriate for everyone. Please refer to the contraindications listed on our Services page, or contact us directly to determine if RLT is right for you.
